U16 State Champs... it's a wrap

Let's hear from the coaches on how the State Championships went for their teams.

Coach Sean on the U16 Bears State Champs... I went into the 2021 state championships without any real idea of what to expect from my U16 Bears.

We were in division 2 and there were some tough opponents in our pool. Two big losses on the first day dampened our spirits, but the girls bounced back on day 2, losing a close one against Logan.

Day 3 was an epic journey of emotions. A one point win against the Pirates gave us the boost we needed to start the day.

In the afternoon we had our crossover game. The Gold Coast Rollers had won 4 games and lost only 1. We played them tough all game, keeping it just close enough to make them concerned. Then it happened. A shot worthy of an ending in a Hollywood sports movie. Down 2 points with 1 second left on the clock, they turn the ball over and Summer hit the biggest 3 I've ever witnessed. Bundy were victorious!

We then played off for 5/6 on the final day in a rematch with Logan. Another close game, but this time, still off the high of the last game, Bundy managed to win again. Our girls had finished 5th.

We had a truly fantastic group of parents and supporters this year.

Most importantly however was the chemistry amongst our girls. They played together, laughed together and fought for each other on the court. They even sang Justin Beiber songs together (much to Solomon's disgust).

Thank you Sami, Summer, Caitlin, Jem-Jem, the 3! Ava's, Mack, Regs and Ashanti for being an awesome group of girls. I've been coaching basketball for a long time, but this is one season I'll always remember. Cheers, Coach Sean

Coach Mark on the U16 Bulls State Champs... Game 1 vs Northside Wizards - we trailed at half-time by 16 but came back to win by 10 with hard work and our full court defence.

Game 2 vs Southern Districts - we were level at quarter time but they were just too big and their bench too deep for us. Lost by 88 - 55.

Game 3 vs Emerald - we won 65-42. This was the first time we won against them this season. Great effort.

Game 4 vs Brisbane Capitals - we lead from start to finish 82-55.

Game 5 vs Sun Coast Orange - we played hard but lost 93-55 against the team that ended up wining the comp.

Semi final Crossover vs Hervey Bay - a tough hard fought win 63-56.

Final game play-off for 4/5th vs SC Phoenix - we lead early and held on to win 81-76.

We ended with 5 wins and 2 losses for the State Titles, finishing 4th in Div 3.

We played very well as a team and everyone contributed and bought in to the game plan. I couldn't be prouder of these young men! It helps we had the best manager in the world. Mark

BBI is extremely lucky to not only have players who consistently give it their all and a bunch of enthusiastic, patient and at times very noisy supporters, we also have a group of extremely dedicated, knowledgeable and caring coaches, assistant coaches and team managers who put in 110% all season and make playing rep the best possible experience for our young players. Words never seem enough... but a huge THANK YOU to you all!

The fun isn't over... First our U12 & U14 teams play a CQJBC in Gladstone 1st - 2nd May.

Then it's our turn with a HOME CARNIVAL 4th - 6th Jun.

After that our U12 Teams head to their state champs 27-30 Jun in Brisbane.

Followed by U14 Boys playing 2-5 Jul in Toowoomba and U14 Girls 7-10 Jul in Mackay. Lots more 2021 rep action to come!

GO BUNDY!! :D
